When Road Safety Advocacy Meets Action in the Top End
Peter’s visit included time with our head office team and a powerful appearance at the VET Careers Expo, where he engaged with students about driving habits, the dangers of distraction, and the importance of being part of the road safety movement.
From Personal Tragedy to a National Mission
Peter Frazer founded the SARAH Group after the tragic loss of his daughter Sarah, who died in a preventable crash on the Hume Freeway alongside a tow truck driver. Their story catalysed a national call to action that continues to save lives.
In 2023, Australia recorded 1,253 road fatalities – a 7.3% increase from the previous year (BITRE).
Young drivers aged 17–25 are overrepresented in fatalities, despite making up just 10–15% of licence holders (TAC).
Empowering NT Students to Become Road Safety Advocates
At the Expo, Peter spoke with our supervisor, Chris Pettit, about the role traffic controllers and TMA operators play in keeping road workers and motorists safe. Their conversation highlighted how a safe driving culture starts the moment a young person gets behind the wheel.
