Throughout the month of May, Trafficwerx NT once again shifted from our signature black and orange to blue and yellow. While this was a visible change, it represented something far more important, our ongoing commitment to road safety across the Northern Territory.

Trafficwerx NT proudly supported National Road Safety Week 2026, a national campaign focused on reducing road trauma and saving lives on Australian roads.

More Than Just a Week

National Road Safety Week ran from 17–24 May 2026. However, the message extended far beyond a single week. Road safety remained an everyday responsibility and one that sat at the core of everything we do.
From our inner city operations to remote and regional worksites, Trafficwerx NT continued to uphold the highest standards in NT. The campaign’s message, Drive so others survive, reflected a mindset that should guide every journey.

Why Road Safety Matters in the Northern Territory

This message carried even greater weight in the Northern Territory, where road fatalities across remote and regional networks continued to remain higher than any other state in Australia.
Long distances, fatigue, changing road conditions, and limited infrastructure all contributed to increased risk. As a result, strong traffic management practices, ongoing education, and greater awareness remained essential to improving safety outcomes.
Every decision made behind the wheel had the potential to impact not only the driver, but everyone around them.

A Powerful Visit from Peter Frazer

Earlier this year, Trafficwerx NT, in partnership with TMAA, had the privilege of hosting Peter Frazer, founder of National Road Safety Week and President of the SARAH Group.

Peter’s visit brought a powerful and personal perspective to the conversation around road safety. After losing his daughter Sarah in a roadside accident, he dedicated his life to advocating for safer roads across Australia.

Peter’s message is clear, behind every statistic was a real person, a family, and a community affected by loss. Sarah’s favourite colour was yellow, which is now a national symbol for road safety awareness.

What Did We Pledge For?

At the heart of National Road Safety Week was a simple but powerful pledge. It encouraged all road users to take responsibility for their actions and commit to safer behaviours.

The Road Safety Pledge:
We pledged to drive as if our loved ones were on the road ahead.
We pledged to remove distractions and never use a mobile phone while driving.
We pledged not to put others at risk through speeding, fatigue, or driving under the influence.
We pledged to protect vulnerable road users, including those working on our roads, by slowing down and giving them space.

These actions may have seemed small, but they created a lasting impact on road safety across the Northern Territory.

Drive So Others Survive

National Road Safety Week serves as a reminder, not only of the lives lost, but of the lives we could still protect. Everyone had the right to arrive safely at their destination.

Trafficwerx NT is proud to support this message, not just during the campaign, but every day of the year.

Drive so others survive.

On Saturday 18th April, the team at Trafficwerx NT had the opportunity to be part of the Darwin Safety Expo, a community event designed to bring safety awareness, education and connection together under one roof.

Hosted by Neighbourhood Watch NT, the free, family-friendly expo welcomed Territorians to explore practical ways to stay safe at home, online and in everyday life.

The event focused on improving safety awareness and preparedness, giving attendees the chance to learn, ask questions and connect directly with experts.

From reptile encounters to anti-scam training, the expo delivered a wide range of activities designed to educate and engage people of all ages. Families, local residents and businesses all came together with a shared goal – building a safer, more connected Northern Territory.

How Trafficwerx NT Showcased Traffic Management

For Trafficwerx NT, the day was all about making traffic management practical, interactive and (most importantly) engaging.

At our stall, we focused on giving people a hands-on experience of what we do every day on site, including:

  • Multi Message Sign demonstrations
  • Traffic cone challenges
  • Stop/Slow bat games
  • Interactive traffic management activities

These activities gave attendees a chance to step into our world and better understand the importance of traffic control in keeping both workers and the public safe.

It wasn’t just about watching, it was about getting involved, asking questions and learning through experience.

Sun Safety and Community Engagement

We also had a range of sun-safe prizes up for grabs, helping to reinforce an important message for life in the Northern Territory – staying protected while working and living in high-risk environments.

Throughout the day, our team had the chance to connect with so many people from across the community. Whether it was a quick chat, a game or a demo, every interaction helped raise awareness about the role traffic management plays in everyday safety.

Events like this play a crucial role in:

  • Sharing practical safety knowledge
  • Encouraging community participation
  • Connecting people with local services
  • Promoting proactive safety behaviours

For Trafficwerx NT, being part of initiatives like this aligns directly with our commitment to safety, not just on worksites, but across the wider community.

Thank You to the Darwin Community

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended the Darwin Safety Expo and took the time to visit our stall.

From those who jumped into our traffic management games to those who stopped by for a chat, we genuinely appreciate your support.

We’d also like to recognise all the other stallholders and organisers who made the day such a success. It was an incredible example of what can happen when community, industry and safety professionals come together with a shared purpose.

The success of the Darwin Safety Expo highlights just how valuable these events are for the Northern Territory.

At Trafficwerx NT, we’re proud to play a role in promoting safety, raising awareness and supporting our community and we’re already looking forward to the next one.

Trafficwerx NT, in partnership with the Traffic Management Association of Australia (TMAA), recently hosted a Toolbox Talk in Darwin featuring Peter Frazer, President of the SARAH Group and founder of National Road Safety Week.

This event brought together industry leaders, government representatives, and traffic management professionals. It reinforced a shared goal. Safer roads across the Northern Territory.

Trafficwerx NT is proud to continue its sponsorship with SARAH Group. This partnership supports ongoing road safety awareness and education across the Traffic Management industry.

National Road Safety Week Message in the Northern Territory

Peter Frazer, Founder of National Road Safety Week and President of SARAH Group stood giving a toolbox talk in Darwin

Peter Frazer visited the Northern Territory ahead of National Road Safety Week, which runs from 17–24 May 2026.

While that week is a national campaign, Peter made it clear the message must continue year-round.

Road safety is not seasonal. It is constant.

The core message remains simple: Drive so Others Survive.

This message is especially important in the Northern Territory, where remote and regional road networks continue to record higher road fatalities than any other state in Australia.

A Personal Story Behind Road Safety Advocacy

Peter shared the personal story that shaped his mission.

Fourteen years ago, he lost his daughter Sarah in a roadside accident.

That moment changed his life.

Since then, he has dedicated his work to reducing road trauma across Australia through the SARAH Group and National Road Safety Week.

Every road user matters. Every decision counts.

Road Safety Challenges in the Northern Territory

During the Toolbox Talk, Peter spoke about national road safety trends.

The Northern Territory records, on average, four times more road fatalities than other Australian states and territories.

This statistic reinforces the need for strong Traffic Management practices, education, and safer worksite environments.

Trafficwerx NT continues to support this through compliant traffic control, training, and safe systems of work across the Northern Territory.

Industry Leaders in Traffic Management NT

Tyra Webb Cooper, Chris Boyer, Hon Bill Yan and Peter Frazer all pictured together with their supporter certificates for SARAH Group and National Road Safety Week

The event brought together key leaders from government and industry.

We welcomed Hon Bill Yan MLA, Treasurer, Minister for Logistics and Infrastructure, and Minister for Housing, here he is pictured with Tyra Webb-Cooper, Chris Boyer and Peter Frazer where key conversations were able to take place. Strengthening the impact of National Road Safety Week and improving community engagement across the Northern Territory.

Hon Bill Yan acknowledged the importance of traffic management teams in keeping road users safe. He also recognised Chris Boyer’s honorary membership with TMAA, highlighting his long-term contribution to the Traffic Management Association of Australia and traffic management industry.

Community Engagement and Local Connection

Peter Frazer is pictured with Tyra Webb Cooper and Nicole Brown ahead of the Toolbox Talk

The Toolbox Talk also created space for cultural and community connection.

Tyra and Peter met with Nicole Brown, Counsellor and Founder of Follow in Their Footsteps.

Nicole shared her cultural knowledge and connection to Country. This added depth to conversations around community wellbeing and road safety specifically in the NT.

It highlighted an important truth. Road safety is not only about systems. It is also about people and connection and starts from the ground up.

Strong Attendance Across the Traffic Industry

More than 40 people attended the session in Darwin.

Attendees included Trafficwerx NT staff and representatives from:

  • CLP
  • AANT
  • CCF NT
  • City of Palmerston
  • NT Employment Services
  • Department of Logistics and Infrastructure (DLI)

Despite active night works from Trafficwerx NT, attendance was strong.

This shows the commitment within the Traffic Management industry to ongoing learning and safety improvement.

As we move toward National Road Safety Week 2026 and beyond, Trafficwerx NT continues to support one clear message:

Drive so Others Survive.

Because safer roads in the Northern Territory start with all of us.

Take the Pledge today: National Road Safety Week

Trafficwerx NT recently travelled to Adelaide to attend the TMAA START26 Conference, Trade Show, Excellence Awards, and Gala Dinner.

Across two full days, the event brought together industry leaders from across Australia. The focus was clear. Advancing best practice in traffic management and improving road safety outcomes nationwide.

For the Traffic Management NT industry, events like START26 are essential. They create space to share knowledge, strengthen connections, and drive safer outcomes across all road networks.

A New Era for Traffic Management

The TMAA Conference continues to evolve each year.

In 2026, the introduction of START26 — Safer Traffic and Roadworks Technology — marked a shift towards innovation in traffic control and road safety.

The conference opened with an afternoon of speakers on Thursday. These sessions focused on new technology, safer systems, and the future of traffic management across Australia.

Later that evening, the team came together along with other conference attendees for the Welcome Drinks.

This was the first opportunity to connect with industry professionals from every state and territory. Conversations focused on shared challenges, industry growth, and the future of Traffic Management.

Industry Connection and National Conversations

Trafficwerx NT, TMAA and SARAH Group, National Road Safety Week representatives stand together for a photo.

The Welcome Drinks set the tone for the days ahead.

Chris Boyer (Trafficwerx NT & TMAA), Jen Fellows (Trafficwerx NT), Matthew Bereni (TMAA), and Peter Frazer (SARAH Group & National Road Safety Week) came together to reflect on the past year.

Discussions centred around road safety initiatives and industry progress.

Looking ahead, the focus remains on strengthening engagement across all states and regions.

Celebrating Industry Excellence

START26 also introduced a refreshed structure.

The conference realigned its naming and awards to match the year they are presented, creating a clearer and more forward-focused approach.

For Trafficwerx NT, the event was also a moment of reflection. In 2025, the company was recognised on the national stage. Awards included 2024 Project of the Year for the Variety NT Australia Day Ute Run and 2024 Traffic Management Company of the Year (Tier 1–2).

Recognising Our People on the National Stage

At Trafficwerx NT, our people are at the centre of everything we do.

This year, we were proud to see our team once again recognised nationally.

Nikita Bennett represented the Northern Territory as a finalist for Traffic Controller of the Year. She also took to the live national stage as part of the finalist panel, sharing insights into traffic control, safety, and working conditions in the NT.

Moments like this ensure the voice of Northern Territory traffic management and regional operations are heard across Australia.

Chris Pettit – Highly Commended

One of the first awards of the evening recognised a key member of the Trafficwerx NT team.

Chris Pettit, our dedicated supervisor, was awarded Highly Commended in the 2026 Traffic Management Operations Team Member of the Year category.

Chris is a vital part of our team. His commitment to safety, leadership, and mentoring continues to raise the standard across Traffic Management NT worksites.

Having previously won Traffic Controller of the Year in 2018, this recognition reflects his ongoing dedication to road safety in the Northern Territory.

Although Chris was unable to attend, we thank David for accepting the award on his behalf.

Tyra Webb-Cooper – Indigenous Traffic Controller of the Year

Tyra is on stage at the TMAA Excellence Awards accepting Indigenous Traffic Controller of the Year Award 2026

A standout moment of the evening followed soon after.

Tyra Webb-Cooper took to the national stage as the 2026 Indigenous Traffic Controller of the Year Award winner.

This award highlights the importance of Indigenous representation and leadership within the Traffic Management industry.

Trafficwerx NT is incredibly proud to see the Northern Territory recognised once again. Samantha Eveleigh, also from Trafficwerx NT, was the inaugural recipient of this award.

Tyra delivered a powerful and heartfelt speech. Despite her nerves, she spoke with confidence, passion, and authenticity.

She represented the strength of Indigenous employment and opportunity within Traffic Management.

Chris Boyer – Honourable Membership Recognition

Chris Boyer is pictured on stage the TMAA Excellence Awards with other Honourable Members of TMAA for his work and dedication over the years.

Without a second to spare, Tyra had barely returned to her seat before another unforgettable moment followed.

To our surprise, our very own Chris Boyer was called to the stage to receive an Honourable Membership with TMAA, recognising his dedication and contribution to the association since its founding.

It was a proud and emotional moment for the entire Trafficwerx NT team.

Chris’s commitment to the Traffic Management industry, both in the Northern Territory and nationally, has helped shape safer practices, stronger standards, and better outcomes for road users.

A Night of Celebration

Team Trafficwerx NT are pictured together with their awafrds from the TMAA Excellence Awards 2026

The awards evening quickly turned into a celebration.

Not just for Trafficwerx NT, but for the entire industry.

Teams from across Australia came together to recognise achievement, share stories, and celebrate progress in road safety.

It was a reminder that while we may work in different regions, we are all working towards the same goal.

Looking Ahead for Traffic Management

Nikita Bennett stands on stage at the START26 Conference alongside other Traffic Controller of the Year finalists.

As we reflect on our time at START26, one thing is clear.

The future of traffic management relies on collaboration, innovation, and strong leadership.

Trafficwerx NT will continue to invest in people, training, and safer systems. We remain committed to improving road safety outcomes and supporting communities across the Northern Territory.

Because better traffic management leads to safer roads for everyone.

Each year, National Road Safety Week shines a spotlight on the lives impacted by road trauma and asks all Australians to take action in creating safer roads.

In 2025, the message remains as powerful as ever:
Every life counts.
Every choice we make behind the wheel can save a life—or take one.

At Trafficwerx NT, safety is not just part of what we do. It’s the foundation of everything we stand for. From deploying industry-leading TMA Trucks on high-risk worksites to ensuring every member of our team returns home safely, we’re proud to lead with purpose and precision.

Why National Road Safety Week Matters

Here in the Northern Territory, we work across some of the most challenging environments in Australia. Long open roads, regional highways, and major infrastructure works all demand a heightened focus on safety.

National Road Safety Week gives us a moment to reflect, to remember, and to educate. It’s a time to:

  • Honour those injured or lost on our roads
  • Encourage safer choices behind the wheel
  • Promote the role of professional traffic management in preventing harm

Supporting Those Who Keep Our Roads Safe

Traffic controllers and road workers put their safety on the line every day. According to national data, they’re up to 17 times more likely to be seriously injured on the job compared to the average Australian worker.

Work zone safety is not a suggestion—it’s essential. Drivers can play their part by:

  • Reducing speed when approaching roadworks
  • Following all signage and traffic controller directions
  • Staying focused and avoiding distractions
  • Never driving under the influence or while fatigued

These simple steps protect real people. Parents, siblings, friends, and colleagues—all working to improve and maintain the roads we share.

How Trafficwerx NT Is Getting Involved

Throughout National Road Safety Week 2025, Trafficwerx NT is:

  • Raising awareness across social media and in the community
  • Sharing staff stories to highlight the human side of road safety
  • Lighting up in yellow to honour those affected by road trauma
  • Supporting school and workplace education on safe driving habits

We’re proud to be a visible part of the solution, and we invite others to join us.

Take the Pledge

National Road Safety Week is a call to action. One that starts with a personal commitment to do better—every day.

Take the pledge to drive so others survive at
www.roadsafetyweek.com.au

Encourage your team, your family, and your community to take the pledge too. It only takes a minute, but it could save a life.

Every Life Counts

As a company built on safety, Trafficwerx NT is proud to support National Road Safety Week and its mission to reduce trauma on our roads.

We believe in protecting people—whether that’s a road worker in a high-risk zone or a family driving home after a long day. Let’s work together to make the roads safer for everyone.

Drive safe. Drive aware. Every life counts.
